How much wind speed can the unit withstand?
Our retractable awnings are engineered primarily for sun protection and the occasional use in a light rain. Our units, with proper installation and pitch, are designed to withstand Class I and Class II wind loads 20 to 27 mph. Often damage occurring with wind is not associated with constant driving winds, but rather strong bursts associated with thunder storms. A good guideline is that if it is too windy for you to comfortably sit under the retractable awning, then the retractable awning should be retracted. If you are unsure of how much wind is too much, we offer an electronic motion sensor that mounts to the awning and works in conjunction with the awning motor which safety retracts the unit if conditions become too windy.
