How much will it cost to replace transmission of Ford Explorer 2002 from a junk yard?
Seeing as there are not a lot of 2002 models in junk yards, being only 7 years old, the cost of one may be not that much less than the dealer is quoting. I talked to a body shop guy last week for my 1996 Explorer (the AAA contract mechanic that changed my flat tire didn’t bolt the wheel on properly and it fell off a half mile from my driveway, causing $1000 in mechanical damage and another $900 in body repairs, which AAA is paying for), and he told me that high steel prices is making it more cost-effective for auto recyclers to just crush and recycle their junkers than to part them out. It’s going to be harder and more expensive to keep old cars going until metal prices come down.
