How much will it cost our local shelter to adhere to regulations that the Board will promulgate?
The ASSB will provide board-recommended but not mandated standards for the physical/structural components of shelter facilities, as well as for policy issues involving standards of care, handling, procedures and related accountability. It is not the intent of the Board to expect high-tech urban type facilities in rural areas. However, facilities that endanger animals will be encouraged to make reasonable improvements at a tolerable pace, since taxpayers in every community should be able to expect safe facilities for unwanted and stray animals. The estimated costs of implementing these recommended standards will be variable but are expected to be nominal. These issues largely involve personnel performance in adhering to Shelter Standard Operating Procedures and related accountability from supervisors or administrations.
