How much weight can the top bunk hold?
Most bunk beds are designed to hold a standard twin-size mattress on top. The mattress can either be supported by full slats attached to each side of the bed frame or supported by slats resting on blocks of wood which are attached to the sides of the frame. If the mattress is supported by slats on blocks, make sure it won’t come loose and fall on the person in the lower bunk. Assuming the mattress is secure, you should be safe to climb up and read your child a bedtime story.
