How much weight can the curtain wall mulllions support and what is their composition?
The curtain wall mullions are all 2.5 inches wide. The exterior finished face of the mullion is 1 inch in front of the exterior glass surface. The finish of the curtain wall mullions at the Winter Garden and the Street is clear anodized aluminum. All the vision glass is Viracon VE-2M #2, 1″ low-E insulated glass. The Spandrel glass is Viracov V175 high-opac. White. The curtain wall is supported by a tubular steel framing system. Presently the two 7′ x 7′-3″ glazed openings are glazed with 1″ thick insulating glass. The insulating glass consists of 2 layers of 1/4″ glass separated by a 1/2″ air space. If the “art glass” is to replace the existing insulated unit it should be designed to be glazed into the existing system.
