the amount of water will have been the same. Some of the damage is permanent, but other parts are fixable. If the ice caps melt, there will be more water and land near the water will now be submerged. Most of the UK will be gone. In An Inconvenient Truth, they show a stimulation of what will happen when they are melted. Actually, just go watch An Inconvenient Truth, it is a little boring, but it does a good job explaining.
