Approximately 2,000 acre-feet is needed to supply the LAPLAWD water needs from 2005 to about 2030. This estimate is based on the present number of homes within LAPLAWD and the historic La Plata County growth rate of 2% to 2.5% per year. The source of this water is described in the following question. Once LAPLAWD is formed, one of the many duties of the Board will be to secure water sources in addition to the initial 2,000 acre-feet.
