How much water does a winter sprinkler ban save?
It has been estimated that the two month 2009 winter sprinkler ban trial saved 50 million litres of scheme water a day (equivalent to 22 Olympic pools daily) a total of 2.2 billion litres for the duration of the trial. However, as savings from garden bores could not be quantified and the ban will now extend over three months, not two months as in the trial, the water savings are expected to be even greater.
