How much was Steven Spielberg involved in the film?
Oh, we went over every scene together and talked about how all the action scenes should look. That was one of the biggest thrills for me. Steven loves the Transformers and collected all the toys when they first came out in the 80s. He told me this was the kind of movie he’d like to make, which was very exciting. Drawings, drawings, drawings! We did animated storyboards of all of the robot characters, because we knew a lot of the film was going to be created in post-production. Since the cast and crew wouldn’t actually be seeing any real Transformers during filming, we wanted everyone to have a clear image of what the actors were looking at when they were doing their scenes.
