How much vitamin C is too much?
The story of high doses of vitamin C goes back to Linus Pauling, who was a Nobel Prize-winning chemist but a hopeless nutritionist. He advocated, by personal example, doses of 12 g/day and more, but unfortunately he ended up associating with individuals of questionable credibility, see http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRela… I would go along with the World Health Organisation recommendations at http://whqlibdoc.who.int/publications/20… which suggests that 45 mg/day is good enough for men and for non-pregnant women. Pregnant women need an extra 10 mg/day, and breast-feeding women an extra 25 mg/day. If you take in too much the kidneys spew it out again. Forget pill supplements. What is wrong with oranges?
