How much vegetables should I give my baby guinea pig?
As important as how old is how big. A 1 month old pig should be between 10 and 16 ounces. Others will disagree, but a pig that small, especially if he is on the smaller end of the range, should be getting only 1/4 cup of greens daily. This is assuming that he has all the fresh water, grass hay and fresh 18% protein guinea pig chow with stabilized vitamin C but without seeds, nuts, crunchy bits or colored garbage that he wants. He is at a very high protein demand stage and too much greens keeps him from eating enough of the protein rich chow. I judge a good number of pet shows and the underweight, stunted pigs I see are almost overfed greens as youngsters. Adults can handle a 1/2 cup of greens a day and a cup won’t harm them once they are fully grown at 2+ pounds. I wouldn’t go up to a half cup of greens until your guy is 24-26 oz. It is important to give a variety of greens now so that he learns to eat different things. Pigs form eating habits early in life and may turn their noses up
