How much training do UPOP students have in their fields of study?
Not much. This is part of the reason why UPOP is a program for sophomores. At the time of application, most students have completed a year of general requirements and only one term of major-specific coursework. In addition, not all have had the opportunity to engage in a summer internship or on-campus research. Because of this, it can be difficult for them to secure substantive summer internships without support. UPOP’s intensive pre-employment “boot camp” helps prepare participants for meaningful projects that capitalize on their top-notch problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
