Depending on your data environment, the first – or “seed” – backup can take a significant amount of time to complete. For greater speed, perform the Seed Backup with the Vault connected to the same Local Area Network as your protected device(s). More specifically, sites with approximately 20-30 GB of data can generally be “seeded” across the Internet via a WAN. For sites with 30-100 GB of data, the 3X Best Practice is to perform the seed locally via a LAN. Sites with 100 GB or more of data should be seeded locally via a LAN during an extended period of downtime (i.e. weekend hours).
