As PPD programmes are designed for serving teachers, they are mostly delivered on a part-time basis with taught elements taking place outside school hours. There are usually opportunities for work undertaken as part of a teachers’ employment to form part of the assessment, and increasingly courses are delivered within schools. A part-time MA is usually completed within two or three years, with flexibility in place for teachers to fit their course in around the other demands on their time. There are opportunities to take ‘staging post’ qualifications on the way to a masters, eg a postgraduate certificate (60 credits) or a postgraduate diploma (120 credits). Teachers will need to contact their local PPD course provider for more information about the various options available to them.
