How much time should I expect to spend on homework in FYS 100?
Carnegie units have been how universities and other institutions have traditionally figured out how much time a student spends in and out of class. The Los Angeles Trade Technical College had a good explanation at this site. For a lecture-style course, a student should expect to spend two hours outside of class for every hour in class. For a three-unit class, like FYS 100, expect to spend about six hours a week on homework, though this may vary from week to week.
