How much time is involved in training a SAR dog?
Not every dog is suitable for search and rescue. Our K9 Officers will evaluate your dog to see if it possesses the temperament and physical qualities to perform the duties of a SAR dog. If your dog seems to have potential then you can expect to dedicate at least 2 weekends a month for K9 training with the team, 1 day a month for K9 classroom sessions, and 1-2x a week informal team trainings as training on your own during the week. It can take anywhere from 2-3 years to train your dog to be Operational.
