How much time does online coursework take?
Generally, online courses take the same amount of time or more than traditional ones. The difference is convenience. Online instructors estimate that in a typical 16-week semester course, a student will spend between two and three hours a week for each credit hour. For instance, if a student is enrolled during the fall or spring semester in a three-credit-hour online course, expect to spend six to nine hours per week working on coursework. For shorter courses, such as a summer course, he or she will spend more hours per week on the class work, but the course won’t last as many weeks.
