How much time does band take?
There is some extra time required for rehearsals and performances. However, it is not nearly the time commitment some people make it out to be. In fact, if you compare it to other band programs or other types of school activities, you will be surprised at how little extra time is actually required. During the fall, we begin at 7:45 AM. This is required for everyone in band. Students who ride a bus and cannot get to school before 7:45 must find alternate transportation to school. With 200 people in band, we usually have someone willing to pick up a student and give them a ride to school. The band also practices on Tuesday nights during football season, and we have summer practices before the first day of school (beginning August 1st). Marching season generally runs 13-14 weeks out of the 36 weeks of the school year. A few extra rehearsals are called during concert season. Many band members continue private lessons outside of school time, but this is optional, although highly recommended
