How much spectrum is presently available for the energy, water and railroad industries?
In general, there is a dearth of readily accessible new spectrum for use by the energy industry. The amount of spectrum available is difficult to quantify since it varies depending on the number of radio licensees operating in the immediate area. Much of the spectrum used by the energy industry is shared with other operators, and must be coordinated through frequency coordinators designated by the Federal Communications Commission. If an energy company determines that it needs to utilize new channels not previously licensed in currently operating facilities, or that it needs to obtain authorization to operate in a new location, many times such requests are denied or require extensive modification due to previously licensed operations. New spectrum dedicated exclusively for the use of the energy industry would serve to alleviate many of these problems. Question 2: In which spectrum bands and in which radio services do these industries operate radio communications equipment. Commenters c
