How much space is required to set up an archery range?
No more than 25 archers should shoot at one time for each instructor present, and each archer should be allowed at least 1 yard (or meter) of space on the shooting line. Where space is a concern, archers should be split into two or more groups, or “lines.” So, the width of the range is determined by how many archers will be shooting at the same time. Factoring in the waiting and safety areas, a typical indoor range (for 25 archers on the shooting line) is about 85 feet wide by 60 feet long, which fits comfortably within a typical gymnasium. For an outdoor range, the space needed for a range accommodating 25 archers on the shooting line is approximately 45 yards wide by 70 yards long, including safety areas.
