How much should memory format influence my camera purchasing decision?
In my opinion, it should not be a major factor for most purchasers of mid to high end digital cameras. It may be a factor at the low end for extremely price-conscious consumers. For example, a previous investment in one memory technology may give one camera an advantage over another because an additional $50 investment in more memory is a significant percentage of the cost of the camera. High end purchasers are probably shopping on features and not small differences in price. If you’re already spending $1000 on a camera, you should get the camera with the features you care about rather than short changing yourself on features to save $50-$100 on memory. Flash memory prices are quite low and an additional investment in memory should be considered merely a small increment to the price of the camera.
