How much should I pay for HouseCleaning and what should I expect?

I’m in SoCal and the going rate is $8-10 for unbonded, unlicensed and uninsured housekeepers. For those who are licensed, bonded and insured the rate starts at $10 per hour and goes up from there. I usually interview 5-7 housekeepers with a specific list of what I want done each time they come and what they can do every other time and chores that need to be done every 3 months. That gives them an idea of what I expect and will check each time they clean and things that still need to get cleaned, but not as regularly (frames and glass on pictures, woodwork, hanging light fixtures, window treatments, etc.) I generally find when I clean my own home, top to bottom, it takes 5-7 hours, so if you pay by the hour, know how long it takes to do what you want done to estimate what you will pay.
