How much should I expect to spend getting a new transmission on my 2000 Mazda 626?
at least I think that my transmission went out. I drove to the mail box, put the car in park, got back in the car, when i put it in drive it went in reverse. So i put the car back in park it still went in reverse. I was able to make back to my house, where i parked it and had to but the emergency brake on because it was still rolling in reverse. A: I would say it is a linkage/cable problem, if you lift the bonnet and find on top of the gearbox the selector shaft and move it by hand to see if you can get forward. If it was a gearbox problem you would find putting it in drive you would get no drive at all in any direction.
