How much should I expect to pay in taxi fare in the Dominican Republic?
Taxi fares at the airport are posted and regulated by the Ministry of Tourism. This, however, applyes only to taxis with permits and not to private drivers. You will want to make sure to get a taxi with a “Taxi de Turismo” logo on the side of the door. Most are air conditioned vans. The 2008 taxi fare schedule dictates that a taxi van which accomodates 7 people plus luggage will cost $60.00 USD from Puerto Plata International to downtown Puerto Plata (30 minutes away) Prices are subject to change without notice, but this should serve as a price guide.
