When I started giving private lessons, I was 18 and charged about $15 per 30 minutes. I had been playing for 5 years by then – I am not familiar with your educational system as I’m from the US, but here we base rates on our level of education and how much experience we have. Now I’m currently teaching PK-12 grade music and for the general public I charge $30 per 30 minutes, I charge $25 for my own students, and for low-income families I charge as low as $10. So take a look at your experience and formal training and create a fee based on those two criteria. I’d strongly advise you get a part-time position at a local music store as the violin or piano teacher. At the store you are in a public place when teaching, they will handle the tax information, and you have knowledgeable people around you to help create a syllabus. Remember – create a syllabus
