How Much Sanding Is Needed After Installing a Hardwood Floor?
The post-installation work on a new hardwood floor is all about the sanding. You have to sand it to get the floorboards even, then sand it again to get the surface smooth and ready for staining, and finally you have to sand between coats of your final gloss finish. It’s a hard, dirty job, but without it, all the work you did laying the floor will be wasted. Rent a good drum sander with an array of grit levels of sandpaper (20, 36, 60, 80 and 100). You’ll also need a hand-held vibrating sander with 220-grit paper.
