How much root growth?
Several years ago, Dr. John Street conducted research in Ohio State’s “Rhizotron” – an underground rootzone observation labaratory that enabled research to be carried out on turf while simultaneously viewing the turf root system. That research showed that in a typical October & November, cool-season grass roots can grow as much as 1-inch (25 mm) per week. Good Time For Cultivation. Timing cultivation practices, such as coring, around soil temperatures offers an opportunity for getting the best results from that operation. Aggressive core aeration &/or deep tining right now will promote healthy root growth. Core holes, or fissures created in the soil by deep tining, will provide an aerobic environment for root growth and improve soil water infiltration rates.
