According to information included in the 2006 approved regional water plans, a total of 434,465 acre-feet of reclaimed water is expected to be available for use in the year 2010 in 10 regional water planning areas. Roughly half of this is expected to be available for direct reuse (water used directly after treatment) and the rest for indirect reuse (return of the treated water to a water body). As reported through the TWDB’s Water Use Survey program, the total volume of reclaimed water used for municipal and industrial purposes in the year 2003 was 125,705 acre-feet: 77,231 acre-feet for municipal purposes and 48,474 acre-feet for industrial purposes.
