How Much Radioactive Waste is in Port Hope?
As previously stated, the Canadian Government estimated there was 1.5 million cubic metres of radioactive waste in Port Hope when the agreement was signed in 2001. In 2005, AECL officials informed us at a public meeting at Port Hope Council that their original estimate of 1.5 million cubic metres of radioactive waste was less than half of the actual amount in Port Hope. They told us there were 3.5 million cubic metres of contaminated material.
