How much progress should be expected of our ELLs in acquiring English proficiency as measured by ACCESS for ELLs?
Making Progress defined for Maine schools as submitted to the U.S. Department of Education in August 2004 English means that: At least 90% of limited English proficient (LEP) students at Grades K through 8 will advance from Levels One, Two, or Three of five levels of proficiency to the next level each year. At least 90% of LEP students at Grades K through 8 will advance within at least Levels Four and Five of the five levels each year. At least 80% of LEP students at Grades 9 through 12 will advance from Levels One, Two, or Three of five levels of proficiency to the next level each year.
