How much physical activity do preschool age children need each day?
There are no Canadian guidelines specified for children younger than age 6. However, the National Association for Sport and Physical Education recommends that pre school age children participate in 60 minutes of structured activities that parents lead (like gymnastics and swimming) and 60 minutes of unstructured activities that children do on their own (like climbing, jumping, skipping) every day. It may seem like a lot, but build up physical activity in 10 minute periods, and watch it add up quickly!
