How much of the duty deposits will Canada be getting back under the Agreement?
Under the terms of the 2006 Canada-U.S. Softwood Lumber Agreement (the “Agreement”), the United States will receive USD 1 billion, with all remaining duty deposits and accrued interest (estimated at USD 4.4 billion) being returned to those companies that paid the duty deposits. Canada will be getting back more than 80 per cent of the duties and interest held by the United States.
