How much of the current price of gas has to do with manipulation and profiteering?
This was selected as Best Answer That depends on whether you include governments as the manipulators and profiteers. I understand that in the US only about 14% of the price of a gallon of gas is taxes but here in Canada, taxes (including exploration taxes) by all levels of government, make up approximately $0.52 of every dollar the consumer spends on gasoline Canada produces 2.3 million barrels of crude oil a day, mostly in Western Canasa. 1.3 million barrels are experted to the US each days. (Canada is the US’s 2nd biggest supplier) At the same time as we’re shipping oil to the US we’re importing 800,000 barrels a day from the North Sea, Venezuela and Saudi Arabia. Canadians consume 1.6 million barrels a day, while another 200,000 barrels a day are refined and then exported. If you do the math, Canada is theoretically self sufficient in in crude oil production, and could meet the domestic demand, but in the grander scheme of things Canada is not a major player in the worldwide product
