How much of the bible is prophecy?
Prophecy describes the disclosing of information that is not known to the prophet by any ordinary means. It can mean divine inspiration or revelation of future events. There are prophecies throughout the Bible, but it is not all prophecy. There is history, such as Genesis, Exodus, Joshua, Judges, 1 & 2 Kings, 1 & 2 Chronicles, Jonah and Esther. Parts contain the Law Covenant between God and the nation of Israel, such as Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy and how it affected the nation. There are the Psalms, a collection of songs of praise to Almighty God written by King David and other righteous men under inspiration. Many of them prophesy about the Christ. Proverbs and Ecclesiastes are wonderful words of advice to help us live our lives according to God’s will. Much of the rest of the Hebrew Scriptures (OT) were prophetic warnings to the nation of Israel due to their constantly turning away from true worship, although there are many prophecies within them pointing to the Messiah.
