How much of MBP is dispensable for binding?
The exact region of MBP necessary for binding has not been determined, but the structure indicates that most of the protein is necessary. From the structure, it looks like few if any residues could be deleted at the C-terminus (other than the polylinker residues, of course). It is possible that some of the N-terminus could be deleted, but so far this has not been tested.
