Russia is our third biggest country of origin for solid wood. Within Russia the majority of the wood comes from European Russia, with some from East Siberia, but very little from the RFE. We have been focusing on increasing the forest competence in Russia to be able to support and follow-up our suppliers. Unfortunately traceability and certification in the RFE still has a long way to go. In China we have important solid wood product suppliers, and they import a lot of wood from other countries, especially Russia. What is your policy on illegally logged timber? IKEA does not accept illegally logged timber: that’s part of the IWAY standard. We are working closely with WWF China on a ‘Keep it Legal’ project, to produce a manual that can help people to do supply chain audits. In Russia we have a project to raise awareness of illegal logging.
