How much of a tourism industry does Nigeria have?
Dr. Okonjo-Iweala: We are looking at cultural tourism as we are rich in the arts and culture. A lot of African-Americans go to Ghana and Senegal. We’ll target them first, to make Nigeria their third destination. FG:Are there direct flights between Lagos and New York? Dr. Okonjo-Iweala: There used to be, and we hope that by the end of this year we will restore at least Lagos to New York, but there have been charter flights. FG: I understand that Nigeria has a growing movie industry. Dr. Okonjo-Iweala: It has got so big that the New York Times and the Washington Post wrote about it and they termed it ‘Nollyhood’, and it’s becoming quite an earner. Nobody had really paid attention to these small entrepreneurs doing their thing, shooting these videos, so we don’t want to get into it.
