How much of a concern is alcohol at fraternities and sororities at the University of Minnesota?
Although the common stereotype is that fraternities and sororities enable binge drinking and reckless behavior, U of M chapters work hard to dispel such stereotypes. Fraternities and sororities are required to follow very strict and detailed risk management policies, which are established by both their respective national organizations and governing councils. In addition, the sororities at the University of Minnesota do not permit alcohol at any time on their properties. The Greek community at the University of Minnesota focuses on educating men and women on the dangers of binge drinking and of drug and alcohol abuse. They emphasize responsible drinking behaviors. The newly formed GAMMA chapter is an organization of Greek students that provides educational information and programs to the members of the Greek community.
