How much notice does an employer need to give before changing working hours from day to night?
Check the terms of your contract. I don’t think there is anything illegal about changing your hours from day to night, unless your contract explicitly states your working hours. i.e. 8am – 5pm. Check if there’s anything in there about working nights too. Your employer can give as much/little notice as they like, within reason. For example it would be unfair to make you go straight from working that day to working that night too. Working nights sucks, I do hope your employer isn’t exploiting the recession and the apalling jobs market, with a ‘like it or lump it’ attitude… so many employers are taking advantage of the fact they know it would be really difficult for their employees to get work elsewhere at the moment…
