How much MSW is produced?
Environmental Protection Agency, reported that in 2001, more than 229 million tons of MSW was produced, nationwide, which is almost 4 lbs per person on a daily basis. As mentioned in FDEP annual report, from 1999-2000 data, about 25 million tons of solid waste is generated in the state of Florida every year. This is equivalent to almost 9 tons produced per day by each person. Polk, Indian River, and Flagler counties produced the largest amounts of wastes in that year.
