How much money would be required for a year around the world?
My bf did it a year ago. He started in the UK, when to Africa, then Australia, followed about five countries in Asia. After he bought his around the world ticket, and paid for visas, he had 4000 UK pounds. He lived in hostels and was almost out of money half way through Australia so he had to find work. Finding work proved to be very difficult, and what he did find barely paid for rent in a hostel. He had to borrow money from his parents at that point to get out of Australia and make it to Thailand, but with the very little money they gave him, he got through Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. He said his downfall was treating Africa more as a vacation rather than the first leg of an around the world trip. Another friend of mine (American) studied abroad in the UK and then did an around the world trip from there, including Egypt, Europe and Australia. She had $10,000 US and did mainly Contiki type package tours, including a hot air balloon ride in Egypt, an emergency trip back to the stat
