How much money should I expect to pay for lessons and initiation?
It is generally acceptable to charge a small fee to cover the cost of printing, candles, incense, postage, rent, or any other of the teacher’s personal expenses incurred during the teaching of the classes. Rank, experience, degrees, etc. never give the Priest or Priestess the right to charge huge sums of money for their services. It is generally agreed by Wiccans that their members should not support religious leaders. Even this can vary coven to coven, though. It is wise to be suspicious of people teaching any esoteric subject who charge huge sums of money, or who keep hooking you with promises of further psychic information so that you feel impelled to go back over and over again until they reveal everything. These people are parasites, and live off of the hopes and fears of vulnerable people. Avoid them and start off by reading about Wicca and different Pagan traditions, that will let you learn about the religion before you decide to pay for lessons or be initiated into a coven.
