How much money is usually raised for the local school and the community service project?
Can we expect to build an entire class room in the time we are there? Not really. There is more work than you would expect to build a class room. However, it does depend on what stage of construction you begin your work, how long you are here and the number of people in your group. The first step is digging the foundations. Then, all the bricks must be made by hand. To make one classroom something like 400 bricks are required, which will take a few days to make. The floor must then be levelled out and set. The actual building of the walls is normally directed by local builders to ensure it is done properly. The construction of the roof beams etc and putting on the roof is also normally done by craftsmen as it can be quite dangerous and not advisable for students. Window frames must then be put in. And desks/blackboards made and put into the classroom. The painting of the classrooms is normally tasks given to younger age groups wanting to participate in a community service program. What
