How much money do photographers make?
Lots to consider: If the photographer has a national and international reputation, the pay is very high. If the photographer has only national reputation, the pay is still quite good, but not extraordinary. If the photographer does not have national reputation, the pay is simply okay. If the photographer is an assistant to a better known photographer, the pay is low … barely enough to support a family while also affording regular upgrades to photo equipment (but much can be learned from the experience). Pay is much higher for photographers based in commercial photography (weddings, portraits, or advertising) than for those focused on fine art (gallery shows and museum exhibitions). Pay for photographers who also teach (high school and/or college) ranges on the position. High school teachers make more than college instructors. Pay for college instructors depends on rank.
