How much memory does a regualar desktop hold in comparison to a regualar laptop?
The newest desktop computers today can go up to 16 GiB of RAM (using 4 × 4 GiB modules) while laptops can go up to 8 GiB of RAM (using 2 × 4 GiB modules). Of course that depends on the motherboard having a chipset that can handle 4 GiB modules, there are a lot still around that can only handle 2 GiB modules and there are also quite a few laptops that have some of the RAM soldered onto the motherboard (which therefore only have 1 slot for upgrading). Of course 4 GiB modules are still pretty expensive so pretty much no one is actually using them.
