How much is the average sales price of a 1997 Ford Taurus Wagon with 35,000 miles left?
If the wagon has the base 3.8 liter overhead-valve engine, I would say probably not more than $3,500, despite the low mileage. If it has the optional 3.0 liter DOHC V-6, may be $4,000 or slightly more. If it has the optional engine and goodies like leather seats, six-speaker stereo with CD, etc., maybe closer to $4,500 but not much more. The low mileage may be an attraction to some buyers, but the age of the car coupled with its (somewhat unjustified) mediocre reputation and the current economy will unfortunately keep the resale value low compared to what it originally cost new. By “unfortunately” I say that assuming you’re the seller; it you’re looking to buy one and can get a low-mileage one like this cheap, it’s actually a very good car and a terrific deal (I own a ’97 sedan myself with 137,000 and the car is still running perfectly).
