Taxter Ridge is a 200-acre tract of undeveloped land located mainly in the East Irvington section of unincorporated Greenburgh, with a small portion in the Village of Tarrytown. The Town of Greenburgh has purchased this property to keep it from being developed residentially. The cost of the property was split equally between the State, the County of Westchester, and the Town of Greenburgh. The Town is soley responsible for improvements and ongoing maintenance costs. Since the state and county helped pay for Taxter Ridge, it is open to all state residents. Because the Town decided that unincorporated Greenburgh will pay the cost of acquiring Taxter Ridge, Village residents of the Town of Greenburgh paid nothing towards the purchase, improvements, or upkeep of the property. The Town’s share of the acquisition cost is expected to be at least $3.8 million (not including interest amortized over the next 30 years) – but ongoing costs of operation and maintenance are not yet known.
