How much is Garmin planning to charge for lifetime map updates on a quarterly basis?”

From what I’ve been able to find out, Garmin will very soon formally announce a lifetime, quarterly map update service. For a one-time subscription fee of $119 (reportedly), you can continue to receive free quarterly map updates via download to one specific nuvi (and most streetpilots) for the life of the device. Two years, five years, it doesn’t matter. They will all be free after signup.

Garmin.com has the details: nuMaps Lifetime Navigate with Confidence nüMaps Lifetime is a 1-time purchase that lets you download the most up-to-date map information on streets, highways and points of interest as soon as new content is available — for the lifetime¹ of your Garmin device. Stay Up-to-date nüMaps Lifetime subscription lets you download the newest map data up to 4 times per year without monthly fees or maintenance costs. It’s our most comprehensive update plan. Subscriptions are available for purchase as a download or a gift card. Simply register your new Garmin nüvi® or zümo® at my.Garmin.com within 60 days of first acquiring satellites while driving with your device and you’ll be able to see if a free map update is available. nüMaps Onetime™: $69.99 USD x 4 optional map updates = up to $279.96 per year nüMaps Lifetime: seasonal map updates for the life of your device = $119.99
