How much homework do students have on average?
In response to this question at an Information Session Larry Rosenstock, our CEO, once said that there really isn’t an average amount of homework that students and parents can expect. One of the HTH teachers at the time, who happened to be an MIT graduate, responded with a smirk that technically there must be an average. However, the average is truly difficult to estimate because the amount of work students do at home fluctuates greatly throughout the course of the year. Our philosophy is not to assign homework for the sake of assigning homework nor create additional busy work for students. If an assignment is not completed in class, teachers may ask their students to finish it for homework. If teachers are planning to have a text-based discussion in class, they may send a reading home with students the night before. Additionally, around the time that major projects are due, students may find that they are bringing more work home or staying after school to get help from their teachers
