How much space do you have? A reasonably full installation takes a little less than 4G however you can strip that down considerably. By full I mean both Gnome and KDE, all of the servers and all of the developer tools. You don’t need webservers or databases on a laptop so you can skip those. You also don’t need both Gnome and KDE, in fact if you are really tight for space you can skip both and use a lightweight windowing system. The best way to minimize your disk space is to do a custom install and select only the applications and servers that you really want. That said for a really satisfying Linux experience I would suggest allocating about 6G for /, 2X your RAM size for swap and then the rest of your disk for /home. If you have a large disk I would allocate an additional 6G partition
